Easy Buffalo Chicken Tater Tot Casserole

If you like buffalo wings, but want something a little more filling for dinner, try this high protein casserole next!
It has all those buffalo wing flavors, but in a dinner that feels a little more practical for feeding a family. Especially considering how expensive chicken wings are now.
Everything gets mixed together in one bowl and baked in a single dish, so it’s a really easy one to prep without a ton of ingredients. And if you use rotisserie chicken like I did, you don’t even have to cook the chicken first.
We paired ours with broccoli and cornbread to round things out, but it would also be good with a simple salad or some roasted vegetables on the side.
How to Make This Buffalo Chicken Tater Tot Casserole

Ingredients you’ll need
- 1 whole rotisserie chicken, shredded
- 2/3 cup cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup buffalo sauce
- 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 3/4 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 3/4 bag of frozen tater tots
- sliced green onions for topping
I know cottage cheese in casserole sounds a little questionable at first, but trust me here. You really can’t tell it’s there once everything bakes together.

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
Spray or lightly grease a casserole dish and set it aside.
2. Prepare the chicken mixture
Shred the rotisserie chicken and add it to a large mixing bowl.
Add the cottage cheese, buffalo sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
Mix everything together until evenly combined.

3. Add the filling to the casserole dish
Spread the buffalo chicken mixture evenly into the prepared casserole dish.
4. Add the cheese
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the buffalo chicken mixture.

5. Add the tater tots
Arrange the frozen tater tots in an even layer on top.
6. Bake the casserole
Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbly and the tater tots are crispy and golden brown.

7. Garnish and serve
Top with sliced green onions before serving.
If you want extra buffalo flavor, drizzle a little more buffalo sauce or ranch over the top.

- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in an even layer on top of the casserole.
- Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbly and the tater tots are crispy and golden brown.
- Top with sliced green onions before serving. Optional: drizzle with ranch or extra buffalo sauce.
