A quick lesson about rainbows
Since the main topic here is rainbows, what exactly IS a rainbow anyway?
A rainbow is a color spectrum that is created when light shines through water droplets in the sky. Rainbows can be seen any time it rains and the sun is shining.
Did you know you can also create your own rainbow by using your water hose on the fine mist setting if it’s a sunny day?
Rainbows truly are one of nature’s most beautiful phenomena.
And, lucky for us, they’re also a lot of fun to color!
The different colors of the rainbow in order
Just in case you were wondering how many rainbow colors there are – The answer is seven.
Fun fact: The colors of a rainbow always appear in the same order.
Here are the 7 colors of the rainbow in order:
- and violet
However, you can color these rainbows any way you’d like!
Ideas for using these colorable rainbows
There are so many fun ways you can use rainbow coloring sheets such as the ones below.
Coloring pages make the perfect rainy day activity, most definitely. But they can also be used to make thoughtful gifts for friends and family.
For example, you could have the kids create a personalized coloring page with a special message for a grandparent. Let’s be honest, this is every grandparent’s favorite gift anyway!
You could also use these coloring sheets as part of a rainbow-themed birthday party or a sleepover. Just print them out ahead of time and set them out with some crayons or markers for the kids to enjoy.
Or, print out a few rainbow coloring pages for a fun activity to do with your kids. They’ll love the quality time together.
Colorable rainbows can also be fun for kids who are interested in drawing. They can use the templates for tracing or as inspiration for their own scenes.
Lastly, these cute rainbows can be used to decorate as well. From notebooks to scrapbooks, just print them out, trim off the excess, and glue them down.
Crayons – Crayons are the classic coloring tool and they’re great for kids of all ages. They’re easy to use and there’s no need for any prep work. Just hand them out and let the kids go to town.
Markers – Markers are perfect for older kids who want to color with more precision. And, they come in so many fun colors. Just make sure to put down a sheet of paper underneath to prevent bleeding through.
Colored pencils – Colored pencils (we love the twistable ones) are another good option for older kids or anyone who wants to be able to color with precision. Plus, they’re much quieter than markers.
Watercolor paints – These are fun to use, but they can be a bit messy. So, make sure to put down a sheet of paper or a tablecloth to protect your surfaces.
No matter what coloring tools you use, the important thing is to enjoy the process and let your creativity flow.

Simple rainbow templates
Are you looking for simple rainbow coloring pages that do not have all the additional elements?
These templates all have a large rainbow template in the center. Some of them have clouds, but some do not.
These are perfect options for kids who want to color a rainbow but don’t need all the extras, but they are also fun for tracing or if you need a basic rainbow pattern for another project.
There’s plenty of white space around each rainbow for adding your own drawings and creations too!
Rainbow coloring sheets with flowers
In addition to rainbows, flowers are also a lot of fun to color. I particularly love the petals because they give kids an opportunity to show off their creativity with vibrant colors and alternating patterns.
These scenes have rainbows in the background along with various other elements as well like stars, clouds, and butterflies flying around the page.
One of the coloring pages has a colorable banner that says “rainbow” and you’ll find a few friendly clouds too.
Unicorns and rainbows coloring pages
Who doesn’t love unicorns and rainbows? These unicorns and rainbows coloring pages are perfect for kids who love both.
The scenes feature a few different rainbows along with clouds, stars, hearts, a few flowers, and some very cute baby unicorns.
A couple of the sheets also have the word “rainbow” in a bubble font that can also be colored.
Pick your favorites or print them all.
Rainbows with stars
If you’re looking for rainbow coloring pages with stars specifically, see if any of these catch your eye.
While there are other elements in some of the scenes (such as clouds, butterflies, and circles), these are mostly rainbow-and-star themed.
Some of the stars are double-lined to give kids more opportunities to practice coloring within the lines.
Rainbows with hearts
The next few coloring sheets are all about rainbows with hearts. Hearts pair well with the rainbow vibe – warm, cheerful, and positive.
Some of the printables only have rainbows and hearts. Others have additional elements like a banner and fluffy clouds.
The hearts are double-lined – some are even triple – so you can really let your creativity shine when you color them in.
Rainbow coloring pages with clouds
These rainbow coloring sheets all include additional clouds. These can be really fun if you’re child is looking for rainbow and cloud templates to trace or to use as inspiration for their own drawings.
Or, of course, they can just be fun to color.
Some of the clouds have faces while others do not. Like many of the other pages, there are also some additional elements here and there.
Keep in mind that, while you certainly can, you don’t have to leave all the clouds white!
If you look at real-life clouds, there are other colors like grays and blues. And, if the sun in setting, you might even see some pinks, purples, and oranges.
Encourage kids to let their imaginations run wild with these pages.
